About Istanbul Retina Institue

Welcome to the website of the Istanbul RETINA Institute.

Our clinic, in addition to general ophthalmology, primarily focuses on diagnosing and treating complex eye diseases, particularly retina and vitreous pathologies, which is our main purpose. The majority of our patients are referred from other hospitals due to difficulties in diagnosis and treatment. Besides diagnosing and treating these patients and conducting clinical research, our clinic also provides post-specialization (fellowship) training in retinal diseases for ophthalmologists.

Our clinic's work spans a broad range, from correcting complications of anterior segment surgeries to treating age-related macular degeneration in older patients. Complications from cataract surgeries, and issues in glaucoma patients who do not respond to medical and surgical treatments, are also within our expertise and are treated here. Additionally, our electrophysiology laboratory assists in the differential diagnosis of undiagnosed retinal and optic nerve diseases and provides electrophysiological examination support to neurologists, especially pediatric neurologists, and other branches.

In addition to various topics our clinical physicians specialize in, their experience in pediatric retinal diseases is also significant in practice. Many of our physicians serve as consultants to neonatal intensive care units in several hospitals in Istanbul and address issues related to pediatric eye diseases, primarily retinopathy of prematurity.

Alongside clinical work, our physicians also engage in educational activities, sharing their knowledge with many ophthalmologists both abroad and domestically through theoretical and practical training, particularly on age-related macular degeneration. Our international training activities extend from Pakistan to Dubai, Kuwait, Jordan, Syria, Israel, Egypt, Sofia, Kosovo, and Sarajevo.

This website contains information on various eye diseases and treatments. In the eye library section, under the simulator section, you can find simulations of vision problems caused by certain diseases. Besides simulators, the library section provides information on eye anatomy, diagnostic tests, safety measures to maintain eye health, and risk factors.

In the patient information section, we describe what to expect during the first visit to our clinic. This section also addresses common questions, including differences from other eye examinations and waiting times.

The research and education section lists our national and international studies and mentions the post-specialization fellowship training provided in retina, macula, and vitreous diseases and surgery.

The publications section discusses books authored or translated by Istanbul Retina Institute physicians and includes patient information brochures.

We hope that the Istanbul Retina website will help visitors find the information they seek about eye health.
